The Marion Drexler Band - Bio
At the core of The Marion Drexler Band is…
Marion Drexler: Singer/songwriter, guitar, mandolin
Don Maitland: Electric bass, acoustic bass and vocals
Jonathan Ison: Drum kit, hand drums, percussion, recorder and vocals
Tom Pullin: Lead guitar (electric and acoustic) and vocals
Marion is the heart and soul of the Marion Drexler Band. She is one of the very few singers on the local music scene that has full command and control to a powerful voice, bringing both sensitivity and boldness to a tonally excellent singing style. Her sound gives a tip of the hat to Grace Slick and Janis Joplin, but is definitely her own. Marion's in-your-face Pop/Rock style will drag you out of your seat and onto the dance floor. If you don't move, you're already dead. Yet her ballad renditions will send shivers down your spine. Marion's voice can croon so smoothly and yet deliver all the power a tune needs.
Marion is an accomplished rhythm guitar player and is well on her way to becoming a prolific songwriter. Also.... picky, but it keeps the drummer happy! She is now working on her 2nd album of inspiring original tunes.
Don is one of the most experienced and invested musicians you`ll find. He continues through many years to craft his style, creativity and holds a solid, unflappable ``bottom end`` to the band`s music. Don has been involved in live music for many years. Initially a drummer and then a rhythm guitarist, he now calls the bass his home!
Peter started playing drums at the age of 11. In his teens, he developed his skills playing with guitarists Ian Crichton (later Saga, Asia) and John Humphrey (later Savoy Brown, Carole King). Peter played professionally in his own band, 6 nights a week for several years and various other bands for the last 10 yrs. He has played as close as Georgina, Ontario and as far away as British Columbia. A keen ear combined with a genuine love of music and a natural ability make this drummer a valued member of our band.
Tom Pullin is a gifted singer/songwriter in his own right as well as a published recording artist with 2 CD's in circulation. He's been active on the Canadian and American music scenes for over 30 years with an impressive list of artist collaborations along the way, including extensive and generous donations of his time and talents to fundraising and charitable organizations in general. Tom is a wonderfully skilled guitarist, equally at home on electric or acoustic with influences that include Blues, Gospel, R&B, Contemporary Folk and Country genres. Tom is a recent and very welcomed addition to the Marion Drexler Band. You're gonna love this guy!
Musical Friends and Mentors
David is a good friend and a very special guest guitarist and singer who joins us from time to time.
A frequent very special guest is Richard Thornton, our good friend and saxophone player with the Jack DeKeyser Blues Band. Richard ranks among the top blues
sax men in Canada. Hearing Richard play is a special treat indeed! He's seen here on a recent gig.
Sonny Milne, seen here at a recent gig, has helped us out on drums. Sonny's history echoes Canadian Rock and Roll history, having worked with Robbie Lane and
the Disciples, Ronnie Hawkins, Sweet Blindness and David Wilcox, among many others. He has toured with Loretta Lynn and currently holds the drum chair for
Canadian music legends Little Caesar and the Consuls.
Bruce moved back to Ontario this spring after spending a number of years in British Columbia. He brings a folky roots style to his playing and is a strong
Paul Ledger (1951 - 2007): our friend and drummer.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now, He set me free
Eddie Baltimore (1949 - 2004): musician, teacher and friend, in the studio with Garth Hudson of The Band.
